RISING DAMP, WHAT IT IS ?

Rising damp is where moisture rises up the walls of a building through capillary action and there are many reasons why this may occur :

  • Failure of existing damp proof course.
  • The Building could have been built without the installation of a DPC in the first place, this is common in older buildings.
  • Bridging of the existing damp proof course could be caused by faulty rendering or debris within a cavity wall.
  • External ground levels raised causing water to penetrate above the protection of the DPC.
  • Moisture rising through the masonary can contain salts which are hydrscopic and absorb moisture from the air.

  • Black Mould and musty odour.

We check for any rot or damage that may have been caused to floor joists and carry out any remedial works required.
New timbers are installed with the ends wrapped in DPC fro added protection.

INSTALLATION OF WATERPROOF RENDER.
Firstly we will remove all damaged skirting board and plaster up to a height of 1.5m and then apply a waterproof render to prevent the penetration of any damp.
This is then followed by the skimming of the walls and installation of new skirting boards to return the property back to a point where it can be decorated.
